What is Modern?

HISTORY - Modernism is a broad term given to a variety of design approaches in architecture, with common characteristics being the simplification of form, elimination of ornament, and combining the aesthetic with the natural surroundings.

MODERN DEFINED: The modern home is most typically a post-and-beam structure with a flat or broad low-pitched gable or shed roof.  The main contributing elements to the architectural character include exposed structure, an expressive use of modern materials, and the incorporation of landscaped areas and the natural environment.
